Bring out the kid in you. If you like working with children and want to learn more about how they grow, Early Childhood Education is the class for you. You’ll learn activities to do with children of different ages, and also about jobs and careers that will allow you to work with children. You’ll also get hands-on experience—three days a week, three and four year olds will come into the class for a part-day nursery school. So if you think you can keep up with the kids, sign up for Early Childhood Education and get ready for fun.
Program Description
Early Childhood Education provides students who want to work with young children with an understanding of the physical, emotional and intellectual development of children. Students learn about the characteristics and behavioral needs of three and four year olds, and how to care for them in a nursery school setting.
Three days a week, students operate a nursery school for local children. In the second year of the program, students gain hands-on experience through internships at local nursery schools, childcare settings and elementary schools.
Good communication skills, both written and oral, are needed to succeed in this program, along with a genuine interest in children. There is a growing need for competent day care providers as well as classroom teachers.
