The Heavy Equipment/Conservation program is the only one in this area that lets you work with trucks, tractors, and four wheelers while learning about both gasoline and diesel engines. Students get to learn how to operate machinery from backhoes to bulldozers, and can even get their forklift operating license.
Program Description
The Heavy Equipment/Conservation program is designed to meet the growing demand for technicians and operators in the transportation, marine, agricultural, and construction fields.
The course provides training in the diagnosis and repair of heavy equipment as well as training on how to operate them. Students learn the principles of the diesel engine, drive train, brakes, suspension and steering, electrical/electronic systems, and preventive maintenance inspection.
Students receive classroom-based theory instruction that they then apply to hands-on lab work in the shop and within the community on a variety of service projects. Specialty areas include Caterpillar and Cummins electronic diesel engines. Select students will have the opportunity to job-shadow and intern with professionals in the area.
